Master of Science with honours in Mechanical Engineering in 1984 at the University of Padova discussing a thesis on the Slip Factor in the Turbomachines.
In 1986 he was awarded a PhD grant at the University of Padova and in 1989 he received the Ph.D. in Energetics discussing a thesis on small gas turbine for cogeneration plants.
From 1990 t 2001 he was Assistant Professor at the University of Padova. Lecturer in the undergraduate courses “Energy Conversion Systems and Machines“, “Design of Energy Conversion Machines” and “Internal Combustion Engines.
1994-1996: Assistant Professor in “Energy Conversion Systems and Machines“ University of Udine.
1997-1998: Assistant Professor in “Energy Conversion Systems and Machines“ University of Trieste

Experimental Investigation of a Pump-Turbine at Off-Design Operating Conditions in Generating Mode
In the present study, a reduced scale model of a low specific speed radial pump-turbine will be investigated to identify the onset and development of flow instabilities. Wall pressure measurements in the stator will be performed with the help of miniature piezoresistive sensors to analyse low frequency component at runaway and the instability sources.

Hydrodynamics of Pump-Turbine at Off-Design Operating Condition in Generating Mode
Numerical flow investigations of a radial pump-turbine will be performed under off-design operating conditions, involving speed no load, runaway and “S-shape” turbine brake curve.

Hydrodynamics of Power Pumps at Off-Design Operating Conditions

Francis Turbine Design a New Approach
This thesis will investigate a new methodology for the design optimization of hydraulic runner blades. The originality of the methodology comes from the geometric definition of the blade load, which uses parametric surfaces instead of a set of profiles.

The flow in Pelton turbines has to be analyzed with such detail to understand the physics of the initial jet/bucket interaction and the jet cut process.

The present thesis will be focused on the parametric design of a Pelton bucket. The runner geometry will be parameterized by means of an inverse design method.

Design and Optimization of Unconventional Profiles to Improve the Self-Start Capability of the H-Darrieus Turbine
This thesis will investigate a new series of profiles. On the basis of this study, an optimum configuration will be designed which results in a higher self-start capability of the runner, while maintaining a high level of the Power Coefficient.

Start-up Analysis of a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
Different approaches to describe the self-start of an H-blade Darrieus rotor will be considered and compared in the present work.

Hydrodynamics of the Banki Mitchell Turbine
The aim of this project will be to perform the simulation of the flow in a Banki Mitchell turbines using a SPH code. The velocity profile will be compared with CFX results.

Banki Mitchell Turbine Blade Optimization
The present thesis will be focused on the optimization of the Banki Mitchell impeller. The runner geometry will be optimized by a particle swarm optimization (PSO) method, while CFD analyses will be performed to assess the performance of different design configurations.
